LOCAL LIPOSCULPTOR DOCTOR FEATURED IN
A&E DOCUMENTARY BEAUTY UNDER THE KNIFE

June 1, 2002, Washington, D.C .: Eric Finzi, MD, PhD, board certified dermatologist and the medical director and owner of Dermatology & Cosmetic Surgery Associates, P.A. in Greenbelt, Maryland, is featured in a one-hour documentary, A&E Investigative Reports: Beauty Under the Knife produced by Newsweek Carlton TV, airing Monday, June 24 th at 9:00 P.M.

The one-hour program investigates the booming cosmetic surgery business, which services more than half a billion procedures a year. It is no longer just movie stars and aging socialites who are undergoing treatment – it's teenagers, businessmen, mothers and grandmothers. Beauty Under the Knife introduces you to patients and doctors fueling this dramatic explosion. Dr. Eric Finzi, and his patient undergoing tumescent liposuction for the removal of fat on her abdomen, is featured throughout the one-hour special.

Dr. Finzi is best known in the Washington metropolitan area for diagnosing and treating a melanoma on the scalp of Maryland Governor Parris Glendenning. The successful surgery took place in Baltimore's Johns Hopkins Medical Center.

What makes Dr. Finzi a unique dermatologist with a specialty in tumescent liposuction is that he is also an accomplished artist. While pursuing his M.D. in dermatology and Ph.D. in biochemistry, Dr. Finzi was at work painting with oil and epoxy on canvas, and sculpting in wood and fiberglass. His artwork has been exhibited in numerous galleries and shows in Washington, D.C. and New York City. In addition to his private practice in Greenbelt, Maryland, Dr. Finzi has art studios in Kensington, Maryland and Brooklyn, New York. “My wood sculpture talks to me but not the same way my living sculpture,” explains the doctor. He adds “I like the idea of randomly displaying my work in a continuously traveling exhibition. I enjoy sculpting bodies and knowing that I am helping people feel better about themselves simply by liposculpting a body part that has caused them discontent.” Dr. Finzi's discerning eye and talent as a sculptor and painter has patients pleased with their results. Jeanne S., featured in the A&E Investigative Reports: Beauty Under the Knife, agrees. “The changes made to my body have helped build my self-esteem tremendously. I couldn't be happier with the results.”
